Ex-White Plains hoops star makes noise on court as Army assistant coachPosted: Updated:
White Plains native Liz Flooks, a basketball star in high school and college, is still making noise on the court.
Flooks always made everyone around her better as a player at White Plains High School.
Twelve years later, Flooks is still doing the same thing – as an assistant coach at Army.
“I just loving coaching, I just love basketball. It's my passion. I mean my mom was a coach. I feel like I'm just following in her footsteps from playing in college to coaching,” she says.
Flooks went to West Point this past year after coaching jobs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She says coaching the cadets is unlike the others.
“They have so many responsibilities down the hill and in military life and to come up here and play basketball and still have that love and passion for the game is just amazing,” she says.
Flooks was brought to West Point by longtime head coach Dave Magarity.
Magarity said he liked her understanding of the business, having the background that she had and also the experience in coaching in high school.
