Truck slams into Hutchinson River Parkway overpass

It may be a new year, but the Hutchinson River Parkway is once again plagued by an old problem – a truck hitting the King Street overpass in Rye Brook.
Police say a tractor-trailer slammed into the King Street overpass around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday on the northbound side of the parkway.
The crash comes despite several signs telling truck drivers to get off the Hutchinson River Parkway where it turns into the Merritt Parkway on the Connecticut border.
The truck was moved off the parkway and on to the exit ramp, allowing cars to pass through. A second truck was brought in to offload the contents of the damaged truck. The exit ramp was cleared just before 8 a.m.
There have been numerous incidents like this over the years, with the last incident happening in July 2018.
Westchester County has established a task force to help solve this ongoing problem, but it doesn't seem to be preventing these types of accidents.
The owner of Safeway Towing says the problem lies solely with the drivers. "You can't find a true truck driver today. You're getting these young guys. They teach them for a month driving the truck and that's about it," says Glen Pantore, of Safeway Towing.
