YONKERS -

A transformer explosion turned the sky above the New York City an eerie shade of blue.

Law enforcement says an explosion tore through a Con Ed plant in Astoria around 9 p.m. creating the teal-blue effect. Smoke arose from the source of the blue light, visible from Manhattan and beyond.

The transformer blast affected some subway service and even led to flight delays at LaGuardia International Airport. Most of the power was restored to the airport within two hours.

No injuries have been reported.

Con Edison said on Twitter: "Last night's electrical fault caused a sustained electrical arc flash & transmission disturbance" and that there were no injuries or power line issues.
