Seafood is being mislabeled in some supermarkets across Westchester , according to the New York state Attorney General’s Office.

A new report from the attorney general's office found that one in four samples of fish that were tested at over 100 supermarkets statewide weren't being sold under a federally recognized name.

The investigation says they were being replaced with fish that were usually much cheaper and less environmentally sustainable. Wild salmon and red snapper were just two of the kinds of fish that were often mislabeled.

One of the stores named in the report was Stew Leonard's. The company's president and CEO said this is the first it has happened and issued a statement saying in part, "We immediately changed our signage and our labels once we were alerted to this issue."

State officials say consumers should always pay attention to the labels and the price of any fish that they buy.
