YONKERS -

Seven K-9s from police departments across Westchester County graduated Friday after 17 months of training.

They were presented with badges and diplomas at Coyne Park in Yonkers.

Detective Wayne Papovitch's German shepherd named Tango, from the Greenburgh Police Department, was one of the graduates. The dog learned how to sniff out explosives, track down lost children and how to bite a criminal.

"The K-9 teams are important,” says Papovitch. “They're a very vital part of the police department."
