Police: Peekskill man attempted to steal $30 using ax

PEEKSKILL -

A Peekskill man was arrested after attempting to steal a holiday gift using an ax, police say.

State police say troopers were dispatched to Oscawana Lake Road for a report of menacing with a weapon.

Investigators discovered the man, Sean Date, tried to forcibly take $30 from the victim using an ax. According to officials, Date and the victim had been given money as a holiday gift.

Date is due back in court next week on robbery and criminal possession charges.
