Schumer calls on MTA to speed up PTC workPosted: Updated:
Sen. Charles Schumer is calling for Metro-North to work faster to install technology that could prevent train crashes.
Schumer says the MTA wants a two-year extension to install positive train control (PTC), which could stop an out-of-control train from crashing.
The project was supposed to be installed by the end of this month.
Schumer is calling for the railroad to meet that deadline. In a tweet, he called the reported two-year extension request “unacceptable” and added, “Safety is the priority.”
Word on the street is that Long Island Rail Road and Metro North will announce it could be ANOTHER 2 YEARS to fully install positive train control, designed to keep our trains safer.— Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) December 9, 2018
Unacceptable—Safety is the priority.
They must move faster.
