Today was a big day for so many families across Brooklyn and just in time for the holidays.

Dozens of children officially joined their forever homes Thursday.

Families gathered for the special occasion at Brooklyn Family Court.

"This is really a culmination of a long process for these families and we are just so excited to be there to celebrate with them,” says Commissioner David Hansell, of the Administration of Children’s Services.

For Judge Javier Vargas, most days his courtroom is not are not as joyful as today.

"I woke up at 5 in the morning just thinking how happy I’m going to be,” he says. 
 
A total of 40 children were adopted today.
