An authentic Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn is bringing the taste of Mexico City to the borough.
Chavela's on Franklin Avenue was opened in 2007 after one man's quest to find authentic Mexican food in Brooklyn.
Arturo Leonar was on a mission to find the food of his hometown, Mexico City.
However, he says he couldn't find anything close that compared to it.
He opened Chavela's, and says it reminds him of his home.
"We make the food that I grew up eating, but also the decor here is similar to things around the house that remind me of my aunts’ and grandmother's houses. Between the colors and the textures,  I wanted to put it all together in one place," Leonar says.
From rice to beans to fish filled tortillas with queso fresco and guacamole, Leonar says everything is made fresh.
