Bambi on the beach -- deer sighted in Coney Island

A lot of Coney Island visitors say it's hard to find surprises along the boardwalk -- but a wild deer left people shocked on the 29th Street beach Thursday.
Swimmers say it swam right up to the beach and hopped out of the water. It may have come all the way from Staten Island.
"So crazy," says Jessica Rose, who works in the Lola Star Coney Island Shop. "I mean, apparently deer want to come to Coney Island, and they love it like everyone else."
Sources tell News 12 there were actually both a mother deer and an injured baby.
Authorities have taken in the injured fawn. They let the mother wander freely.
In general, deer are common -- just not along the boardwalk.
"I'm originally from Texas," says Tamela Bennett, who lives in Brownsville now. "So I thought that was pretty neat. There's still wildlife out there, I guess."
