Neighbors fear dead tree in Yonkers is safety hazardPosted: Updated:
Neighbors fear a dead tree in a Yonkers neighborhood is a safety hazard.
The roughly 20-foot oak tree on Pietro Drive is now leafless and dead. Richard Champi says he is concerned about it falling down and causing severe damage.
"It will eventually come down and destroy all the wires and transformers on the street. People will not be able to get to work," he says.
The tree is on private property. The homeowner of that property declined to go on camera, but told News 12 he's not worried about the tree crashing down.
The city of Yonkers said it sent an arborist to look at the tree Wednesday, and suggested to the property owner that it be removed.
Con Ed also said it’s sending an arborist to look at the tree.
Champi says if all else fails, neighbors are looking at coming together and paying to remove the tree themselves. He says the cost is roughly $1,200, and they would need the property owner's approval.
