Kids battling illnesses enjoy fun in the sun in Pomona

POMONA -

Some children who are battling major illnesses got a special day away from the hospital Monday.

More than 80 families traveled from the Ronald McDonald House to Pomona for what was essentially a day off.

The NYPD provided the buses and even escorted the group up the Palisades Parkway to Kruckers Camp Grounds in Pomona, where they got to play, eat, swim and generally leave their cares behind. Local, county and state law enforcement agencies joined together to welcome the kids and entertain them with tours of some of their most exciting equipment.

Parents say the annual event is a healing experience for the entire family.
