Mamaroneck board of ethics member arraigned on child porn charges

A member of the Village of Mamaroneck board of ethics is accused of possessing child pornography.
Charles Thomas Mitchell was arraigned Friday on charges of promoting an obscene sexual act by a child and possessing an obscene sexual act by a child. Mitchell is accused of having a video file on his computer of a girl approximately 10-12 years old performing sexual acts on herself. The District Attorney's Office conducted an undercover operation that found Mitchell was using a software program to exchange child pornography via the internet.
"The allegations are very serious," says Mayor Tom Murphy. "We take them serious, and we will be talking and reviewing him staying on the ethics board obviously."
The mayor also went on to say what's happening is disappointing and a tragedy for Mitchell, his family and the community.
Mitchell is due back in court July 12. His bail is set at $5,000 cash and $20,000 bond.
