Mount Vernon celebrates July 4 amid scorching temps

MOUNT VERNON -

Mount Vernon's annual Fourth of July celebration went on as scheduled Wednesday despite the scorching conditions outdoors.

There was singing, dancing and a reading of the Declaration of Independence at the event.

The bell at St. Paul's Church rang out in observance of the nation's 242nd birthday.

Mayor Richard Thomas told residents that his focus is to "fix" whatever is broken in the city.
