ROTC cadets place flags on graves of heroes

GOSHEN -

A somber ceremony took place this afternoon in memory of fallen Hudson Valley veterans ahead of Memorial Day.

Minisink ROTC cadets placed American flags on the graves of thousands of veterans buried at Orange County's Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.

Cadets spent hours, honoring each service member graveside, paying their respects for their service and ultimate sacrifice. "We recognize all these people who rest here have done something important. They gave their lives for this country. The least we can do is place flags for their remembrance," said Minisink ROTC Battalion Commander Sierra Mitts.

Memorial Day services at the cemetery continue throughout the weekend, including a prayer service Friday morning.
