Head-on crash sends 2 to hospital

A head-on collision in Rockland County sent two people to the hospital and left a main road closed for hours this morning.
Police say the accident happened around 8 a.m. on Route 45 between New Hempstead and Old Schoolhouse roads in New Hempstead. They say a 31-year-old man from Haverstraw crossed into the northbound lane of Route 45 and collided with a 2010 Toyota Corolla. Driven by a 67-year-old female from Hillcrest.
The woman had to be extricated from the  car by first responders. Both drivers were taken to Westchester Medical Center. The male driver suffered minor injuries while them woman’s injuries are considered serious.
Police are investigating the crash and are determining whether any charges will be filed.
A quarter mile stretch of Route 45 was closed for over three hours after the crash.
