Garbage truck plows into woman in Stamford

A garbage truck drove into a woman in Stamford Wednesday morning, sending her to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police say it happened around 7:20 a.m. on Courtland Avenue, near the Maple Court apartment complex. The driver remained at the scene.
"He claims he didn't see her," says Sgt. Robert Monck, of the city's police department. He says police are also interviewing witnesses and plan to speak with the woman.
The 25-year-old victim was on her way to work. She's being treated at Stamford Hospital.
Police closed the area until around 10 a.m.
There is no crosswalk where the accident occurred.
"You have a rainy day, limited visibility, so it could happen anywhere," Monck says. "People just have to be careful when they're crossing the street."
