Earth Day cleanup held at Liberty State Park

A number of cleanups and beach sweeps were held Saturday in anticipation of Earth Day Sunday.
One of the events was held at Liberty State Park.
More than two dozen volunteers participated, including members of Girl Scout troop 12933.
The trash on the beach consisted of plastic bags and bottles, cans, and discarded debris and bricks. The volunteers left wood behind because it's biodegradable.
Hudson County also had other events to celebrate Earth Day a day early including a 5K race, Earth-friendly activities, environmental exhibits, health screenings and activities for kids.
Organizers say some volunteers were at Liberty State Park throughout the week as part of a pre-cleanup to the event.
In Hoboken, hundreds of volunteers fanned out across the city to clean. And in Church Square Park, free trees were given out for people to plant at home.
