Bridgeport officer faces DUI charge in wrong-way crash

A Bridgeport police officer is facing a DUI charge stemming from a December wrong-way crash in Stratford.
Police say 33-year-old Officer John Carrano left a holiday party two days before Christmas and that his blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. They say he was driving on the wrong side of Broadbridge Avenue in Stratford when he hit a car head-on.
The other driver was a 19-year-old woman who is believed to be the granddaughter of former Bridgeport Mayor Thomas Bucci. Police say she suffered broken bones and fractures that required surgery. Carrano suffered minor injuries.
Police say Carrano turned himself in Monday and has denied being drunk. He was released after posting a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned next Wednesday.
