A number of Nassau residents told News 12 Wednesday they'd had enough of snow for the season — and that was just on the second day of spring.
"It's crazy out right now," said Moe Ahmed, of Syosset. "The roads and highways are crazy to drive right now."
Peter Rosenberg is one of hundreds of travelers inconvenienced when LaGuardia Airport suspended nearly all of its flights due to the storm.
"They canceled my flight to Colorado," he said. "So we're going to have a fun little journey tomorrow taking Amtrak to Pennsylvania, then flying out of Philly at eight instead of LaGuardia."
As snow increasingly stuck to the roads after dark, many roadways in Nassau County were nearly empty.
Earlier in the day, the slick, treacherous conditions led to a number of car accidents across Long Island ahead of the evening commute during the month's fourth nor'easter.
"Things can turn very quickly," Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said in a public appearance alongside Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who declared a state of emergency on Long Island. "Urge people to be safe today. Get off the roads. Let the plow operators do their job."
By 3:30 p.m., Nassau County officials had reported more than 60 traffic accidents, and Suffolk reported more than 90.
"This is going to get worse before it gets better," Gov. Cuomo said of a storm that was expected to continue dumping snow on the Island until Thursday morning.
Police said an East Meadow crash killed one woman after a minivan flipped onto its side on the Wantagh Parkway near Old Country Road around 10 a.m. They said five other people in the minivan were seriously hurt. The Wantagh Parkway has since reopened.
