Pleasantville students prepare for National School WalkoutPosted: Updated:
Students in Pleasantville will be joining thousands across the country Wednesday as part of an effort to raise awareness about gun violence and to push Congress to act.
Thousands of students are expected to participate in the walkout on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Protesting students in Pleasantville will walk out of school for about 20 minutes, wearing shirts that read “#Enough.”
“We demand change, and that's our message,” says Pleasantville senior Joe Zucker.
The walkout is said to be a student-run movement, but some teachers and administrators say they support the effort.
“We've had conversations in our social studies classes and our morning announcements around civility, public discourse,” says Principal Joseph Palumbo. “We believe strongly that students with different viewpoints should have respect for their classmates and be able to participate or not.”
News 12 is told that proceeds for the "#Enough" shirts will go to the Parkland, Florida, shooting victims.
