The heavy snow from Wednesday's storm has knocked down trees and power lines across the Hudson Valley.
One hard-hit area was on Lockwood Avenue in Yonkers. Con Edison crews were there Thursday clearing power lines and poles out of the street and off parked cars after the nor'easter tore through the neighborhood.
Homeowners said a tree on Manning Avenue snapped and fell on power lines on Lockwood Avenue, causing a transformer to explode. Hundreds of homes immediately lost power.
The street was blocked off so repairs can be done. Homeowners had no electricity or hot water, and business owners had to close until further notice.
City officials planned to have Lockwood Avenue cleaned up by the end of the day, but it was not clear when homeowners and businesses would get their power back.
City officials said about 1,700 additional homes lost power Wednesday night.
