A Connecticut Lyft and Uber driver is accusing some out-of-state drivers of not following the rules when it comes to the safety of young children.
Rob Cifre contacted News 12 Connecticut via Facebook, saying he has noticed some drivers from both ride-sharing companies are picking up people with small children and driving them without the proper car safety seats.
They are required by state law to only transport a child in the proper safety seat.
"Even if it was like a $50 ride, I couldn't live with myself if a child got hurt on my ride," Cifre says.
Cifre says some people get upset when they can't get a ride without a child safety seat.
"This one lady the other day took off her shoe and tried to hit me with it," he says.
Lyft and Uber drivers are not required to provide safety seats but encourage passengers with kids to bring their own or find a driver who has one. Driver David Pacheco says he always asks parents if they have one.
"If the answer is no, I politely decline and tell them I'm sorry (but) due to the laws, I cannot take you from here to there," he says.
Uber and Lyft have a $5 cancellation fee. Police say that's a small price to pay for a child's life.
State law requires every child under 8 years old or 80 pounds to ride in car seat, or the responsible party could be fined or even arrested.
