Brighton Beach boardwalk bathrooms to move to Coney Island Ave.

After nearly five years of debate, the Brighton Beach boardwalk in Coney Island will finally be getting more public restrooms.
The project dates back to 2013 when it was decided that public bathrooms would be built outside of Oceana Condominiums, a complex for luxury condos on Brighton 15th Street. Residents and local officials, however, opposed the location and fought to relocate the restrooms.
In 2015, an environmental study concluded that piles shouldn’t be built in front of the complex, determining that the location was particularly dangerous if another severe storm were to hit.
After several years of halted progress, the two restroom stations are expected to be relocated to Coney Island Avenue by Memorial Day.
"It's very positive for the community,” said Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz.
The bathroom stations will be raised on stilts to prevent them from sinking in the event of a superstorm.
