Teen allegedly brandishing gun on Instagram faces drug charges
An 18-year-old man allegedly seen brandishing a gun in an Instagram post is now facing gun and drug charges.
Wayne police say a concerned resident alerted police about the Instagram post, which reportedly featured Christopher Ruby brandishing a revolver.
Police say that they identified Ruby as the person in the post and found that he previously lived in Florida and had prior interaction with police in that state.
A search of Ruby’s home resulted in the discovery of a variety of marijuana paraphernalia, as well as a revolver with a broken trigger guard and electrical tape wrapped around the handle, according to police.
A spokesman for the police department says that in light of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, officers were going to take any potential threat seriously.
“Although the suspect never made any directed threats, the content of this disturbing image was investigated in a timely manner for the purpose of ensuring public safety of our community residents,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “We believe potential future criminal act involving this weapon and another tragic circumstance was averted.”
Another person inside the home, 18-year-old Alyssa Ruby, is also facing drug charges.
