McDonald’s to remove cheeseburger from Happy Meal menu, offer smaller fries

McDonald’s will remove the cheeseburger offered on the Happy Meal menu boards across the U.S., the company says.
Customers will still be able to order the cheeseburger upon request, however, the option to order will not be visible on the Happy Meal menu, McDonald’s wrote in a press release Thursday.
"Customers in the U.S. will see accelerated changes to the Happy Meal menu this year.  In June 2018, 100 percent of the meal combinations offered on Happy Meal menu boards in the U.S. will be 600 calories or fewer, and 100 percent of those meal combinations will be compliant with the new nutrition criteria for added sugar, saturated fat, and 78 percent compliant with the new sodium criteria," according to the press release.
The fast food restaurant says it will also replace the small French fries in Happy Meals with kids-sized fries in the 6-piece Chicken McNugget meal.
They say the changes are necessary in order to offer healthy meals with less calories, saturated fat, sodium and sugar.
