Between Borders: Lawmakers demand action after News 12 investigation

Top New York lawmakers are demanding action after a News 12 investigation into a startling immigration dilemma across the state.
The probe revealed that New York immigrants are being detained nearly five times the national average, while overall deportations in the state have skyrocketed.
"If you weren't paying attention, you didn't know. But now that you know, if you are doing this to immigrants, there is something wrong with the system," says Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer is vowing to reintroduce and sign a countywide immigration protection bill that was vetoed by his GOP predecessor, Rob Astorino.
Republican lawmakers say they also think the nation's immigration laws are due for an overhaul.
"Reality is when people are coming to America, just come the right way," says state Sen. Terrence Murphy.
Polls show that most Americans want the federal government to find a solution that gets them out of the shadows.
While that solution continues to elude lawmakers in Washington, D.C., lawmakers in New York say they will continue to speak out.
