A Yonkers mother says a ceiling leak from December caused a partial collapse the day after she alerted her building's property owner.
Caroline Ortiz say the property owner promised they would fix the leak at her second-floor apartment at 130 Elm St., but that they never came.
The day after she alerted the owner, Ortiz says she was taking a shower with her daughter when the bathroom ceiling came crashing down. She says it nearly hit her and her young daughter.
Ortiz says there was also an electrical fire in her kitchen.
News 12 was there when the city's Housing and Building inspector came in to condemn the apartment in the four-story building. Ortiz says she was not the only apartment to be condemned.
Ortiz says she has lived in the apartment for six months and now can't go back until everything is fixed and permits are obtained.
She says she will stay with family and has not decided if she will return once repairs are made.
