JetBlue donates flight to Puerto Rico evacuee in need of medical treatment

A Puerto Rican evacuee is on the road to recovery after Hurricane Maria destroyed her home and experiencing a serious health scare.
Sandra Santiago tells News 12 that Hurricane Maria damaged her home in Dorado, Puerto Rico and left her unable to treat a growing infection on her foot.
Santiago had suffered from diabetes-related gangrene and clogged arteries.
She recounts her roof caving in, water rising and being unable to receive the care she needed.
Santiago tells News 12 that surgery at a local hospital would have been too risky due to unreliable electricity.
Her family in Yonkers reached out to FEMA, elected officials and JetBlue to plea for help in getting Santiago the care she needed. They say that within 24 hours JetBlue had responded and offered to donate a flight.
Santiago was flown in and received immediate care at the Westchester Medical Center.

Though she has since had part of her foot amputated, she tells News 12 she is recovering and grateful to still have her life.
