Rye Neck football team collects toys for sick children

Players from the Rye Neck High School football team are bringing some holiday cheer to children at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital.
The teenagers spent their Sunday braving the cold at Harbor Island Park to collect donations for children in need.
Toys like Nerf guns, Radio Flyers and stuffed animals were all donated for the cause. The football team is hoping they can collect as many toys as possible so they can donate them to sick children at the hospital.
The Valhalla-based hospital has special significance for the team. The players say they had a teammate who was treated for cancer there so they decided it would be the best place to donate their toys.
"Not everyone is as fortunate, so it's nice to help people and spread the Christmas cheer," says Mark Poniro, of Rye Neck High School.
The team was accepting donations until 4 p.m. Sunday.
