Volunteers work together to clean up Hempstead Lake State Park

Dozens of Long Islanders came together at Hempstead Lake State Park Sunday morning to help make it a more beautiful place to visit.
Some 80 volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God were cleaning up the shorelines of the park and collecting litter from the streets in the area.
It's part of a larger global effort called "Mother's Street." Similar cleanups were being held in more than 175 countries around the world.
"Our motto is to spread the love of a mother. Seeing everybody being united and wanting to clean up, it's a very great feeling," says church member Blair Garner.
Organizers had 200 bags that they hoped to fill with trash and debris. Park officials say the effort is a great help.
