Wake remembers man who inspired ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

PELHAM -

Hundreds of people came out Tuesday to say their final goodbyes to Anthony Senerchia, an inspiration behind the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Senerchia, a Pelham native, lost his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis on Saturday at 46.

According to the ALS Association, the challenge raised over $100 million in just an eight-week period back in 2014. Most of that money went to research.

At the Pelham Funeral Home, the line to get inside went all the way down the block. Police had to set up a road block.

Pelham's fire chief says they made Senerchia an honorary member of the department.

Senerchia leaves behind his wife and young daughter. His funeral is set for Wednesday morning.
