Rep. Lowey: GOP tax plan a scam, bad deal

Rep. Nita Lowey was in White Plains Monday to explain why she thinks the GOP tax plan is bad for New Yorkers.
Lowey, who strongly opposes the Republican tax overhaul as is, was joined by realtors, caregivers and other taxpayers at the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors to blast the proposed plan as a bad deal for the Hudson Valley.
"In my district, 45 percent of taxpayers who take the state and local deduction with an average deduction of more than $26,000 would be hurt," she says.
President Donald Trump has called for major last-minute changes to the tax plan while traveling overseas in Asia. In an early morning tweet, Trump urged lawmakers to repeal the Obamacare individual mandate.
The House is expected to vote on the proposed measure as early as this week.
The Business Council of Westchester tells News 12 it's important to adopt real tax reform and simplify the process. It also added that the current Republican proposal could put New York at a disadvantage.
