A meeting this week in Newburgh will tackle the topic of opioid addiction.

On Tuesday, the state Senate is planning to hear from law enforcement, mental health experts and loved ones of people whose deaths can be attributed to heroin and other opioids.

Similar hearings have been held throughout the state to gather insight into how communities are addressing the scourge of drug abuse and addiction.

Lawmakers included more than $200 million in this year's state budget for efforts to prevent and fight addiction.
