Port Chester Middle School was closed again Tuesday after a concrete panel fell from the building last week.

The panel, which weighed over 4,500 pounds, collapsed and crashed into a window.

No one was hurt during the incident.

Crews worked Tuesday shoring up the 90 concrete panels over the windows of the school. School officials say crews are installing scaffolding to hold up all of the 50-year-old panels while they are inspected. The school superintendent says it was better to be safe than sorry.

“I don't think they're dangerous. I think it's just we are being extra careful. It is a school. They are here for 50 years and one fell, but we are not going to take any chances,” says Port Chester Superintendent of Schools Edward Kliszuz.

Kliszuz says it’s not clear when the school will reopen.

“I want to get school open but I want it to be absolutely safe. Once the work is done, the engineers and architects will affirm it’s safe and we can reopen,” he said.

News 12 has been told that the work could cost the school district $400,000.
