Hundreds of people flocked to the Yonkers Raceway Sunday to raise money and awareness for Type 1 diabetes research.
Teams representing businesses, families and schools walked the three miles in honor of loved ones who have the disease.
Those who came out say juvenile diabetes has an especially lasting effect on them.
"We've had adults with diabetes but when it's a little person it hits you in the heart a different way, so we decided to come out and support," said Michelle Cruz, whose nephew was diagnosed with diabetes.
Organizers say they hope to raise $475,000. They have raised more than $2 million for Type 1 diabetes research since 2012.
