Authorities search for possible human remains in Roosevelt

Authorities were expected to search through the night Thursday for possible human remains in a wooded area of Roosevelt.
Nassau police and federal agents scoured a wooded area near West Greenwich Avenue for remains following a tip from a so-called person of interest Wednesday night to Homeland Security Investigations. The 27-acre site contains rugged terrain, overgrown vegetation and a lake.
"We'll use every tool in the toolbox to go through that wooded area," said acting Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
As News 12 has reported, HSI is the investigative arm of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and has been conducting an ongoing investigation into the MS-13 gang.
Neighborhood residents said they fear the search may be related to a gang-related homicide, but Ryder said it was too soon to tell if that's the case.
No remains were found as of Thursday night. Police said their search could take days.
