Hundreds gather for opioid crisis youth summit in White Plains
Nearly 400 students gathered at the Westchester County Center Monday for a youth summit to address the opioid crisis.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino kicked off the event by introducing Project Worthy, an initiative that provides ways to combat addiction through resources and education.
In Westchester alone, the number of opioid fatalities increased more than 200 percent from 2010 to 2015.
Students said the summit is a way for them to be the solution in the fight against the drug epidemic. Students also learned that other drug and alcohol use can increase the likelihood of heroin addiction.
