Police: 5 businesses had signs of break-ins within 2-block radius

A string of burglaries within a two-block radius in Hastings on Hudson has police on high alert.
Police say the glass was broken on the back door of Hastings Center Restaurant before the cash register was smashed and more than $1,000 was stolen.
Next door, there was an unsuccessful attempted break-in at the Hastings Stationary store.  The back door of the store was smashed.
Police say a total of five businesses on Warburton Avenue had signs of a break-in, including a smashed back window at Sterling National Bank and another broken back window at Peter Gisolfi Associates. That business was also ransacked for computers.
Across the street, the Protection Fire House was hit. After a break-in attempt on the first floor, the burglars broke in through a second-story window and stole a flat-screen TV.

Police believe the string of burglaries happened Wednesday morning between midnight and 5 a.m.
