Students at Riverhead High School saw an increased police presence around campus Monday after a classmate was arrested for allegedly making a threat against the school on social media.

Parents tell News 12 that the student shared an image of what appeared to be a high-powered rifle on Snapchat along with the text, "excited for school TM," shorthand for tomorrow. The post also included a wilted flower emoji.

Following an investigation, Riverhead police arrested the 15-year-old student and charged him with making a terroristic threat.

The teen, whose identity was not released, was given a court date and released to his parents.

The school district sent out a recorded phone message to parents this morning explaining the threat and noting that there would be extra officers at the school. School officials also reminded parents to talk to their kids about making responsible social media posts.

In a statement to News 12, the district says, "While there is no current threat, we take all matters concerning the safety of our students and staff seriously."
