Harrison K-9 officer laid to rest after battle with 9/11-related cancer

A heroic police officer and victim of a 9/11-related cancer was laid to rest in Harrison Wednesday.

Friends and family said their final goodbyes to Walter Mallinson at St. Gregory the Great Church.          

Officer Mallinson passed away just two days before the 16th anniversary of the terror attacks.

The 56-year-old was a K-9 officer with the Harrison Police Department. He responded to ground zero in the aftermath of the attacks on the twin towers.

He leaves behind a wife and two kids.
