The Valhalla Fire Department is holding a donation drive for hurricane victims in the aftermath of Harvey and as Irma approaches Florida.
The department is collecting a range of items like diapers, clothing and toiletries.
Two vans loaded with clothing have already been sent to Yorktown to fill a truck waiting to take items to Texas, and the department sent a shipment of dog food to Queens, where it too will be sent to the Lone Star State.
Commissioner Anthony Ciancio says his department would normally send firefighters to help out, but couldn't this time.
"So we said we had to do something to help these people," he says.
Collections will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday. On Monday, officials say they plan to re-evaluate the situation after Hurricane Irma will likely cause significant damage in Florida.
