Hundreds were on hand at St John's Episcopal Church today to pay their final respects to the beloved owner of Walter's Hot Dogs.
Eugene Warrington, known around the county as Uncle Gene, passed away peacefully over the weekend. But for decades, the 95-year-old left his mark on the community as a family man, business owner, volunteer firefighter, a historian, and member of many other clubs and organizations.
For most, he'll be remembered for Walter’s Hot Dogs in Mamaroneck, and all the love he provided over generations. “He was an icon to this community. There was no one he didn't know and no one he didn’t greet and be nice to. One of the greatest gentleman I've ever known,” says friend Bill Salatino.
Warrington’s family has vowed to keep Walter’s Hot Dogs, which has been around for 98 years, in business. They say he would've wanted it that way.
