A former Yonkers councilwoman who was convicted on federal corruption charges has been released from prison.

Sandy Annabi served six years at a federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut. She is now at a halfway house in Brooklyn. Annabi was convicted in 2012 of accepting bribes for conspiring to change her vote on two key development projects, including the Ridge Hill shopping center. 

Residents living in her former district have mixed reaction about her release. 

"This situation should have never happened… never happened at all. Anybody who's in political office, anyone in the public's eye is at a higher standard than everybody else," says William Simmons, of Yonkers.

Annabi will be released from the halfway house in May 2018.
