WHITE PLAINS -

Multiple cars caught fire inside a White Plains parking garage on Wednesday night.

Police say more than six cars went up in flames in the lot above the Walmart on Main Street around 9:30 p.m.

Crews knocked down the fire within 30 minutes.

Shoppers tell News 12 they evacuated the store amid what was a chaotic scene. “I was getting ready to go pay and someone started yelling to leave the store. I had heard an alarm but I ignored it thinking it was something wrong with the escalator.  But they were telling people come out, come out, come out,” says one shopper.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.

The cause of the fire has not been released yet.
