Teen run over by construction van

Posted: Updated:

A young girl is fortunate to be alive after a freak accident in Mamaroneck.

Sources tell News 12 that the 15-year-old, a student at Mamaroneck High School, was feeling faint so she laid down on the grass outside the school.

A construction van working at the building accidentally drove over her, trapping her by her hair, with her face pressed against the inside of the tire.

Fire crews were able to raise up the van to free her. “She was very lucky. An inch closer to her head it would have crushed her. God was on her side,” says Mamaroneck Fire Chief Tracey Schmaling.

She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and aside from a minor wrist injury, she is OK.
