A Hudson Valley hospital is under scrutiny for its health practices after a patient was allegedly given a bloody wheelchair.
The patient recorded a cellphone video of the wheelchair in question as she waited for help at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh.
Corrina Dooley says the incident occurred Thursday while she was waiting with a friend who had sprained her ankle. It was then when they noticed blood covering one of the foot rests.
A hospital spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying the wheelchair didn't meet its standards, but that as soon as they were made aware of the conditions the patient was moved.
However, Dooley says she had to alert hospital staff multiple times before another chair was offered.
"They just had no sense of urgency," she told News 12.
Hospital administration say they are investigating the incident and that patient safety is a top priority.
Dooley says she wants an apology and assurance something like this will never happen again.
"That hospital needs to evaluate their staff and protocols for cleaning their equipment," she says.
News 12 reached out to the Orange County Department of Health, but calls have not been returned.
