State to enforce 'Move Over' law

Drivers across the Hudson Valley are being reminded to clear the way for first responders.
Thruway workers, state police and tow truck operators handed out fliers along interstate rest stops like the one in Ramapo to remind drivers of the "Move Over" law.
The law has been in effect since 2011 and requires motorists to slow down and move over for any approaching emergency vehicle.
"There's a lot of disregard for the law, says Alec Slatky of AAA. "If you can't safely pull over at least slow down. That helps keep officers and people pulled over safe as well."
State police say they are also stepping up enforcement. People who don’t move over when they see flashing lights can face points on their license and fines.
