Firefighters battle flames and bitter cold in New Rochelle
Firefighters battled a house fire in New Rochelle Thursday on one of the coldest mornings of the year.It took about 25 firefighters an hour and a half to get the flames under control at the house on Montgomery Circle. Investigators say due to the cold weather, the furnace was pumping out a lot of hot air and apparently sparked the fire. Fire officials say the flames quickly moved between the walls and broke through on the first floor, igniting items and setting off smoke detectors. Two people were home at the time, but they got out safely when the alarms went off.
Fire officials say the house is not completely destroyed, but there is a lot of damage inside.
