Freezing cold blamed for Yonkers water main break

The bone-chilling temperatures are to blame for a water main break at a major intersection in Yonkers Tuesday.
Emergency crews were hard at work trying to clear up an 8-inch water main that burst at the corner of Yonkers and Midland avenues. The Yonkers Department of Public Works (DPW) had to rip up the black top in order to repair the main. Drivers contended with the traffic while lanes were closed during the repairs.
The water main was repaired and traffic is now back to normal. However, with the extremely cold temperatures, DPW crews are standing by in case another water main ruptures.
